Corkor Vegan Wallet and Vegan Coin Wallet Review

Earlier this week, we here at Friendly and Free were lucky enough to receive two vegan wallets from Portuguese brand Corkor. Corkor create handmade bags and wallets from cork, as a natural, cruelty free alternative to leather.

Portugal provides over half the world’s cork production, and the extraction of cork helps promote the local economy as well as the environment. If you are wondering what cork actually is, it is the bark of the cork oak and it can be removed without hurting the trunk when the tree is in an active stage of growth.

The packaging we received the wallets in was 100% recyclable and highlighted the natural element of the brand.

Cork makes an excellent natural material for wallets, purses and bags because it’s waterproof, fire retardant, hypoallergenic and naturally soft and flexible.

Corkor Vegan Wallet for Men (£30.15)

This wallet came in the shade red and it’s really soft and flexible. Because each product is handmade from natural resources, each wallet has it’s own natural pattern. The contrast stitching is a really nice detail, and the Corkor logo on the bottom right is nicely placed so that it doesn’t overpower the design of the wallet.

Inside, the wallet has eight card slots, two inside pockets and two flaps for cash, receipts or other documents. Although the amount of card slots is about average, the fact that the main compartment is split in to two is really handy for storage.

It is a bifold wallet and it folds up tightly, fitting comfortably in almost all trouser types.

Corkor Wallet with Coin Pocket (£37.78)

The coin pocket wallet is similar in some ways, but has a slight edge over the red wallet because it is RFID safe, with seven card slots, two inside pockets, a photo or ID holder, a coin pocket, and the main compartment is also divided into two.

Although the wallet has a coin pocket, it still fits into skinny jeans comfortably so the added width isn’t a problem.

It is often the case with vegan fashion that a brand will try to replicate leather, so when a brand completely embraces a cruelty free, eco-friendly material it makes a change from the mundane. In Corkor’s case, the wallets are well made, and the natural material not only works well for a wallet but looks and feels really nice too.

Summary

Overall, these are two well made, high quality wallets. The price is reasonable, especially if you compare the price to a handmade leather wallet. Jordan’s favourite is the blue wallet with the coin pocket, as it is card safe, spacious, and the colour makes for a nice change as most often for wallets the choice is between black or brown.

Searching for a high quality, non-leather men’s wallet is not an easy feat, as I found out last Christmas. Corkor has filled a big gap in men’s vegan friendly accessories, with price tags that aren’t totally inaccessible.
