Sleek MakeUP Solstice Highlighting Palette | Review

About the brand

Sleek MakeUP is one of the fastest growing makeup brands on the British High Street, and with the range of products they consistently release, it is no surprise why. Their products are high quality, good value, provide such a range of colour and most importantly cruelty free. They do not test any of their finished products or ingredients on animals, and have stated that they will not sell in China until the legislation on animal testing is changed. Furthermore, a lot of Sleek products are suitable for vegans and they provide a handy ingredients list on the user friendly website.

Sleek MakeUP Solstice Highlighting palette

Shortlisted for the 2016 Beauty Awards, this highlighting palette does not disappoint. Set in a quad palette there are four pretty colours to choose from, Ecliptic, Hemisphere, Subsolar, and Equinox. I really like that each shade is named as it gives the product the feel of a more high-end palette, as well as making it easier to provide descriptions.

Ecliptic is described as a ‘luxurious cream formula’ and it is a pretty silver-pink tone once applied to the skin. Subsolar is a silky shimmer powder in an iced ivory shade. Hemisphere is a pink-lilac baked powder that appears as an iced baby pink once on the skin and Equinox is a warm bronzed baked powder that words well with coral or warmed toned makeup looks.

The palette works well on my pale skin but the Sleek website advertises that the palette will work well on all skintones from fair to dark. It is really nice to see companies, such as Sleek, catering for all skintones as some companies can be quite limited in their range.

Sleek MakeUP also have highlighting palettes in the shades Precious Metal, which has three velvet creams, Midas Touch, which has cool tone metallics and will work really well for Winter and Christmas. There is also the Cleo’s Kiss palette which has two baked powders and two cream formulas and provides for a more natural, everyday look.

The packaging

The Solstice palette comes in a gold mirrored case, with a matte ‘Sleek MakeUP’ logo on the top centre. It closes with a hidden magnet. When you open the palette, you are greeted with four shades on the bottom half, as well as a space to hold the little brush that comes with the kit. The brush is very tiny, with a matte and glossy handle, the bristles are not bad and it’s actually useful to apply the product on to the skin but not very good at blended. I like to use the Real Techniques synthetic setting brush from the Sculpting Set. It has microfibre bristles that really help control the dusting of the highlighters. Sleek do sell a cruelty free makeup brush kit but I have not tried it.

The top half of the palette has a good sized mirror, it is just an average quality mirror that would be useful for on the go application. On the bottom of the palette there is a little box of text which tells you the name of the palette and the name of the shades. It doesn’t say which order they are in but they are actualy from left to right.

The gold casing is nice as it fits in well with the solstice theme but it really shows up fingerprints and especially with make-uppy hands the prints build up pretty fast. This doesn’t bother me because they complete clear off with a quick wipe and the copper tone is really pretty.

Summary

I really like this highlighting palette, it is good quality. For £10 you get a lot of product and the selection of shades in the palette is quite varied so it suits a lot of looks. The shades are so pigmented and blend so easily that the product is just a pleasure to use. The look is provides is really pretty and work well on a range on skintones. If you’re looking for a highlighting palette that works well for a range of looks, doesn’t break the bank, and is cruelty free, then the Sleek MakeUP Solstice palette is perfect.
