Urban Veda is a skincare brand based around balance and wellness, and improving the health of our skin against everyday factors such as pollution. The brand also follows the principles of Ayurveda, a medical system based on the belief that overall wellness is based on the balance between mind, spirit, and body.
The Urban Veda website uses the term Dosha to determine different skin types. There’s Vatta which describes dry and uneven skin, there’s Pitta which is sensitive and includes acne and rosacea, and finally Kapha which is skin that is oily with large pores. The website has an online quiz where you can discover your Dosha – mine was Pitta.
Soothing Exfoliating Facial Polish
This facial polish is formulated with sandalwood, palmarosa, and ylang ylang. I really like the fragrance, it’s strong and earthy but still smells very clean. The exfoliant is pumice stone and crushed walnut shell powder. Because the abrasives are so fine it can take a little time to rinse all the product away completely, but by the exfoliants being so small it does mean that it can clean your pores quite deeply.
This exfoliator isn’t one I would use daily, but I think once or twice a week it’s a great addition to a skincare regime for sensitive, easily agitated skin. It’s different from other exfoliators as although it does make my skin feel very soft and clean, it’s actually quite warming on my skin but I don’t know if this is just because of my skin.
Aligning with Ayurvedic principles this facial polish is best suited to the Pitta dosha – sensitive skin prone to acne, rosacea, sunburn and rashes.

I was really excited to try something from Urban Veda as they have just officially become approved by the vegetarian society and they don’t test on animals:
“As a holistic brand we don’t, and will never, test on animals. We do not sell to countries where testing is obligatory and we avoid using ingredients that are tested on animals.”
All of their products are vegan friendly too!
Summary
The Urban Veda Soothing Exfoliating Facial Polish is a good product to use if you have somewhat problem-prone, sensitive skin. I’ve been using the product for a couple of weeks and it makes my skin feel very smooth and clean after rinsing, however I would really like to try it with the complete set which includes the Soothing Facial Wash and Soothing Hydrating Toner as using the facial polish singularly I haven’t noticed a long term change but I might need to stick with it for longer.
The exfoliating polish is £13.99 for 125ml and the whole set is £37.99. This is quite pricey but I am appreciative that Urban Veda use quality ingredients and the formulation is fitted to each skin type. If you would like to try the range but it’s out of your price range, they do offer a travel set for £12.99 which might be a good choice, as well as their discovery sets which are £19.99 and offer a sample of every item in the range.
