Who are FRAME? Fund for the Replacement of Animals in Medical Experiments

I was recently perusing the cosmetics in Next and saw they had a FRAME logo on them. I had heard of this before and I’ve seen it on some of Asda’s own brand products. I know it means the item is cruelty free but I wondered who are FRAME and what do they do?

Frame is an acronym Fund for the Replacement of Animals in Medical Experiments, they are a research organisation who are dedicated to develop new and valid methods that will replace the need for laboratory animals.

FRAME

This applies to not just cosmetics and home cleaning products but across a range of experiments including scientific research, education, and testing. The organisation is also respectful that not all animal use in laboratories will be stopped straight away so they support the reduction of numbers involved to an unavoidable minimum and refinement of experimental procedures in the aim of reducing the amount of suffering causes to animals.

What does the FRAME logo stand for?

The FRAME logo on a product signifies the company’s support for us and our work. It shows the company believes in better, non-animal science to bring about a safer world. It means the company is helping FRAME to find alternatives to the use of animals in all fields of bioscience.” – frame.org.uk
